The railway is literally 200 meters away from where the cruise ship will dock, assuming there's only one ship in for the day. We pre-made reservations before we arrived and picked up our tickets at the tourist information building, just right outside of the railway. we boarded the train and there was plenty of seating. The views were spectacular!

The red cog is to and from Vitzau, the blue cog is to and from Arth-Goldau. We took the red up, which offered absolutley spectacular views of the lake, mountains and countryside, it was honestly breath-taking. Sit on the left as this is the best side without a doubt. There is a narrow gauge partially cog railway from Brig (from Geneva you get on at Visp now) to Zermatt and another from the village up to Gornergrat. The one from Brig is the continuing track from the Glacier Express. Because it is narrow gauge you have to change from the mainline trains. The cog railway is a fantastic trip up to the summit of Pikes Peak. Beautiful scenery! Hopefully the tracks will be clear so you can do it. Luckily the tracks were clear of snow, and we made it up to the top. Staff was very accommodating with reservation information and guidance on best day and time to go. Train conductor was informative and funny in giving a guided presentation.
