I am using 3.85mm pricking irons for wallets and watch straps with thread no more than 0.55mm in thickness (I personally prefer 0.5mm). The stitching is elegant enough in my opinion and the spacing is absolutely fine for both small and mid size goods. I personally use Blanchard irons but I don't think they are any better than some random $15 chinese pricking iron from ebay.
