The approach to stats is somewhat counterintuitive. Don't worry about spending stat points for health, or damage scaling, health will not benefit you enough and damage scaling is a lot less of a worry until later on. Every build will benefit from some heart and courage (more ki, and faster ki regen) I'd say 15 is a good place to hit early on.
